!! Puppy Buyer Beware !!

Please be careful when purchasing a puppy. Check around, think at least 10 times before making a choice. Shop around, look around and compare. Talk to people and please ask questions. Make sure you are not buying a puppy from a puppy mill. What is a puppy mill? To me, a puppy mill is a place where a person or people breed a male and female for the purpose of producing litters. No kennel will admit to breeding for money. These dogs are not companions or pets. They live in kennels or cages only. Puppies are mass produced meaning they have several litters at a time or they constantly have a litter available year round. Look at their pictures. Do they provide several pictures or just one or two? Are the dogs in kennels? Are the dogs clean and groomed? Do their coats look healthy? Anyone can take a few minutes and hose down a kennel to make it look clean for a picture. Do they show interaction with the dogs outside the kennel? Are the dogs shown interacting with other dogs? Are their dogs living as family members? Are puppies born and raised in the home or in a kennel? These are just a few things to think about when looking for a puppy. This is, of course, my opinion. Other people may have different opinions and that is ok. The point is, be careful and be selective.

!! Puppy Buyer Beware !!

Please make sure you are NOT buying from a BACKYARD BREEDER

What is a back yard breeder ?

A "backyard breeder" is someone who basically has 1 or more dogs that they breed.  They may be indoor / outdoor dogs.  They may be family companions.  The difference is, they are breeding without taking into consideration the dogs in shelters or puppy mills. They freely give out breeding rights to anyone.  They charge a little or a lot less than others.   They also sell their puppies to anyone who wants one.

Why is this so important?

This has a devastating effects on the breed. Why? Because a lot of times, these puppies end up in shelters.  These puppies will also contribute to health problems within the breed.  Backyard breeders do not take into consideration the health of the dogs and the bloodlines they come from.  They often don't even know about where there dogs come from.  They will post that their dogs have common kennels name in their bloodlines in order to make their puppies more attractive. It is a domino effect. They get a puppy from a backyard breeder with breeding rights. They then breed that dog and do the same thing and eventually, there are several dogs breeding with no consideration to quality, health, temperament, personalities.  Before we know it, the breed is over bred and has  growing  health issues and behavior problems.

It is heart breaking to see so many people advertising their puppies in a wrong way.  I see so many who advertise puppies as being "woolly" when in fact, the puppy is not a woolly. I see so many people advertising their puppies as sable when in fact, the puppy is a gray. Or a puppy being advertised as a black when in fact, it is a seal.

Seriously, if they don't even know the simple facts about the breed, how much do they really know and care?  You are about to spend a lot of money on a puppy. Not only that, but you are looking for a companion to love and share your life with for a long time.  It is a big investment.  So please, for your sake, be careful.

If you are looking for a specific puppy and I do not have what you are looking for, I will gladly help you find the right puppy or direct you to other good breeders who may have what you are looking for.

Thank you  for taking the time to read this.
I hope that you can see that we are very passionate about our malamutes and our puppies.  We are equally passionate about the breed, the history and the future of the Alaskan Malamutes.

If you are looking for a malamute puppy to join your family, I ask that you please be selective and expect only the best whether it be a puppy from us or someone else.
This page is to educate you so you can make a great choice in finding the perfect companion.
Weight of an Alaskan Malamute is very important in all stages of life.  In young puppy hood, it is very important to NOT over feed your puppy.  Malamutes that grow too fast too soon are at a much higher risk for health problems and hip dysplasia !

Your malamute pup will not be fully grown until about 3 years of ago. So during these three years, not just young puppy, it is vital to keep you malamute lean and trim. Not skinny but not over weight at all.

When you malamute reaches adult hood, it is still very important to keep your malamute lean and fit. By doing this, your malamute will be a lot happier and healthier and live a lot longer.

What about the "giant" malamutes ?
The larger the breed, the more this is important !!

What about people  who advertise their puppies are huge?
Either the people are exaggerating the size of their dogs - most of the time
or
They over feed their dogs.  They are either unaware of the health risks involved or they just don't care.
